Active Components IQ modulators advance reconfigurable radio
نویسنده
چکیده
T popularity of reconfigurable radios is increasing as wireless infrastructure equipment manufacturers try to design platforms that cover multiple frequencies and air interfaces. The market continues to strive to achieve the ideal of a softwaredefined radio (SDR). While this research continues, incremental developments are taking place that provide common platform designs. Designs are then configured during manufacture, providing an overall savings in development costs. Because of their simplicity and the limited number of spurious components they generate, direct-conversion signal chains are becoming a popular architectural choice in many radios, especially in reconfigurable platforms. IQ modulators and demodulators are key components in direct-conversion transmitters and receivers. This article will focus on using IQ modulators in reconfigurable radio transmitters.

Future Reconfigurable Radio Frontends for Cognitive Radio and Software Defined Radio: From Functional Materials to Spectrum Management
Cognitive Radio (CR) and Software Defined Radio (SDR), concepts which were mere proposals to solve the population of services over the past two decades, are now enabled by novel materials and components to offer fully reconfigurable devices. Thus, a convergence of services can be attained within a reduced, or even single RF (Radio Frequency) signal path in the device. A solid design of reconfig...

In recent years, there has been an explosive demand for wireless and portable applications, which resulted in more flexible communication systems that can handle various standards in different environments. In an ideal software radio, the data conversion occurs immediately after the signal received from the receiving antenna.. This paper presents multi-standard reconfigurable modulators, which ...

Software-Defined Radio (SDR) allows the signal processing components of a wireless device to be implemented in a reconfigurable processor. Recent research has focused on using general-purpose processors (GPPs) for performing signal processing in SDRs. While older GPPs lacked the processing power required for implementing many of the modern, commercial, digital waveforms, newer GPPs offer promis...

Built-in self-test (BiST) for transmitters is a desirable choice since it eliminates the reliance on expensive instrumentation to perform radio-frequency signal analysis. Existing on-chip resources, such as power or envelope detectors or small additional circuitry, can be used for BiST purposes. However, due to limited bandwidth, measurement of complex specifications, such as in-phase and quadr...
متن کاملParametric Design for Reconfigurable Software-Defined Radio
Run-time reconfigurable FPGAs are powerful platforms for realising software-defined radio systems. This paper introduces a parametric approach to designing such systems based on application and device parameters. We analyse the potential for reconfiguration in several software-defined radio components and demonstrate how the degree of parallelism in a reconfigurable module influences reconfigur...
